Untouched beauty Hanumangundi falls that is stuck amidst western ghats is only 15 km from Kudremukh National Park. Also popularly known as Suthanabbi falls among locals, this falls is surrounded by lush green forests and hilly terrains, Hanumangundi falls slides down bouncing on the rocks that appear like uneven steps from 100 ft to reach the ground. At the touchdown of the Hanumangundi falls, a tiny pool is formed which is not very deep. Hence, it is an absolutely safe and fun place to swim around as the water gushing out directly falls on you

You can spot this falls located between Lakshya dam and Karkala in Mangalore- Sholapur Highway. In spite of being next to the highway and a small board indicating the falls, you might miss out on the spot, so be watchful and never take your eye off the road. You need to take a short walk from the main road before taking 300 odd steps near the forest department to reach the bottom of the falls. Be prepared to jump across a few small rocky and slippery boulders before you reach the tiny pool.

Furthermore, don’t forget to carry your own food as you will hardly find any eateries in the nearby surroundings.

Kudlu Falls resides deep inside the jungles of the Western Ghats, near the Hebri town of Udupi. Water plunges through 2 gigantic mountains that have rough terrains and patches of green vegetation, from a height of about 150 ft. Not to mention, about a big pool of 5 ft depth formed at the bottom of the falls, where you can swim and laze around playing. Local people here consider water to be holy as it was inhabited by many sages in the past. So, never miss an opportunity to take a dip in the holy waters of Kudlu Falls. This waterfall is formed by the river Sita and hence it is also “Sita Falls”

You need to trek for 3 to 4 km to reach the foot of the falls. Begin your trek from the parking lot at the base. Trekking trail leads you through a small stream, followed by concrete well-laid steps inside the forest with tall lofty trees. Sound of water cascading down the hill can be heard from a distance. Finally, you need to jump across a few slippery rocky boulders to reach the Kudlu falls. The best thing about the place is its calm and serene surroundings with hardly any crowd.

If you stroll further near the waterfall, you can spot another falls called “Manga Theertha” on top of the hill. However, due to the high-risk involved in hiking to this falls, no human hikes this little beauty. Mostly you can spot Monkeys hiking this fall, hence it is called” Manga” which means monkey in the Kannada Language.

You will hardly find any eateries around the corner, so make sure to carry packed food along with you.

How To Reach Kudlu Waterfalls

You can take a private or Government bus from Udupi\’s main bus stand to reach Hebri town, which is 42 Km away. From Hebri you can hire a taxi which will drop at the base of Kudlu Theertha Falls. Followed by a short trek of 3 km will take you to the bottom of.falls.Else head to this falls in your own vehicles, which is perfect as you can also visit Agumbe, which is a few miles away.

Kadambi Falls is a seasonal waterfall that is located within the Kudremukh range of Western Ghats. White water gushes down through the rocks from a height of 30 ft and forms a pool at the foot of the falls. This fall is set amidst nature with a lot of greenery in the form of trees, shrubs, creepers, etc bordering it.

Kadambi Falls is right next to Sringeri and Kudremukh main road and it is clearly visible from the bridge nearby. As and when you are driving through this route, the sound of milky white water slides down and droplets sprinkling all over the bridge, will make any individual spare a minute and watch this beauty. However, if you wish to get closer to falls, you can park your vehicle on the bridge and hike down from the other side of the bridge. The path may seem little tricks as you need to perform small stunts. With a few hops and jumps across slippery rocks and woods will lead you to the bottom of falls. What next, take off your clothes, wear a swimsuit, and take a leap into the water to beat the heat.

During monsoon as the rivers run free and wild, Kadambi falls and the region around it comes alive full-fledged. So, the best time to visit this place will be during peak monsoon and post-monsoon( i.e. winter) from June to January. There isn’t any entry fee to the falls. However, try to avoid getting into the water in monsoon due to the high-risk factor involved.

Apsarakonda Falls Trek

You need to trek for 15 odd minutes in a well-defined path that will lead you to Apsarakonda falls. After you park your vehicle, there is a small garden and there you should take a path that leads downwards to reach the ancient Narasimha temple. You should descend the concrete steps that are placed behind the temple. Once you reach this point you have to walk a few yards downwards.  And try to follow the sound of water crashing to the ground then you arrive at the falls.

Pond of angels

Apparently, locals believe that angels used to fly down to Apsarakonda falls to take baths and relax in the olden days. Hence, this falls is called “ Apsarakonda” which means  “pond of angels” in the local language. Considering the beauty falls possess, no wonder the angel came down to relax here.

Pandavas Cave

On the other hand, you can spot huge and attractive caves near the falls called Pandava caves. As per the legends, Pandavas of Mahabharata stayed in these caves during their exile period. Do not enter the caves as there are poisonous snakes inhabiting inside it.

If possible try carrying your own food, as you will not find any eateries other than a small canteen that serves local food.

You can pay a visit to Umamba Mahaganapathi and  Ugra Narasimha temples which are tucked in caves from time immemorial. As per legends, these temples were established by saints who used to meditate here, thousands of years ago.

You can even take a dip in these sweet backwater pools and laze around doing nothing, On top of this, do not miss out on sunsets that cast a golden glow on everything that is around you.

You can take a narrow path from the main road that leads you to the beach. If you love adventure, then try to hike down the cliff to reach the beach.

How To reach Apsarakonda 

Coastal town Honnavara is just 8 km away from Apsarakonda village. Hence,.you can either hop into a bus which is less frequent or aboard an auto-rickshaw from Honnavara. Otherwise, you can take a bus to Kasarkod beach and stroll towards Apsarakonda for 1.5 to 2 Km, there are signboards to guide you.

Hebbe Falls is a beautiful gem that hides inside the Bhadra Tiger reserve in Kemmanagundi hills, Chikmagalur. Falls are set amidst the dense forest and plenty of coffee plantation makes it gain a picturesque edge. Hebbe Falls is formed by freshwater springs that exist on top of mountains. You can spot water cascades down through slippery black rocks from a height of 551 feet. 

In fact, it is a 2 tier waterfall, the bigger one is called Doddahebbe falls and the smaller one is called Chikkahebbe falls. Not to mention, the beautiful pool below the falls where you can swim all day long. Above all, the water here is believed to be infused with medicinal herbs, hence good for skin, so never miss an opportunity to take a dip  

Indeed, this place also acted as a summer retreat center for the Wodeyar Rulers majorly Krishnaraja Wodeyar 𐌠𐌞. 

Hebbe Falls Trekking

You need to trek through steep narrow paths inside the forest for 10 km to reach the Hebbe falls. Trek starts from the Forest check post near the Karnataka Horticulture Department guest house. As you make your way into the forest you will come across a tiny pond, 3 beautiful flowing streams, and Chowdeshwari Mahasakthi temple. Furthermore, you can hear the sound of water splashing the ground as you are inching towards the falls.

Whereas, if you are an expert and love trekking more then you can start from Tarikere which is 35 km. This trek will take you an entire day to complete and you will be mostly walking through forests and the probability of sighting wildlife i9s more. Usually, you can spot mighty tuskers, spotted deers, wild boar, and a few other exotic wildlife.

 If you don’t fancy hiking then you can opt for adventurous and bumpy Jeep Rides through muddy tracks and coffee estates from the forest checkpoint. Usually, they will charge around  Rs 400/ head and it is an hour ride. But be prepared to take a few steps in the last phase from Khoday’s estate as the jeep wouldn’t go beyond this point.

Best Time To Visit Hebbe Falls

Like every other place, this falls is great to visit during the winter season, i.e from October to February. But if you want to witness the falls in full flow with mist surrounding, then head to this place in Peak monsoon. Of course, trekking is a  bit risky in monsoons as there will be leeches, the path will be slippery, and dangerous to swim as water flows full-fledged, but believe us the view will be extremely fulfilling.

You can hop on to government buses that are frequently available from Bangalore to Chikmagalur. And, from Chikmagalur,  Hebbe falls is 70 km away, hence you can either take direct buses or hire a private cab.

Bheemeshwara waterfall is a lesser-known trail that is tucked in the Sharavathi Valley Wildlife Sanctuary of Western ghats. It is located near a quaint little town Kargal on Bhaktal – Kargal road in Shimoga, Karnataka.  Bheemeshwara waterfalls are one of the most beautiful all season falls that tumble down from 50ft high Valley studded with rocks. This place is also known as the Sarala hole or Sarala falls by the locals.

You will hardly find any tourists as the place remains isolated within the forest, except for the Mahashivaratri festival. During Mahashivaratri festival time a special puja is offered to Lord Shiva. Hence, you can witness the whole town coming alive with colorful lights, devotional songs, and thousands of devotees flocking around 

History Behind Bheemeshwara WaterFalls and Cave Temple

Apparently, as per locals, this cave temple dedicated to Shiva was established by Bheema of Pandavas during their exile period. Hence,  this temple is called the Bheemeshwara or Bheemalingeswara, Apart from this, Arjuna one of the brothers of Pandavas used his arrow to get water from rocks for the temple purpose and that formed the falls.

There are no fancy or any kind of restaurants near the falls. You can request the locals staying near the falls to cook food and coffee for a minimum amount and they will be happy to do it. All along the way, you can spot blooming flowers, lofty trees, green creepers, and tiny wild animals. You will love every bit of journey as nature playfully blows gentle winds at you all day long. There are multiple paths to this trek, hence you can ask locals to know the easy and safe route.

There are 2 different platforms from where you can observe the scenic beauty of the falls. As you walk in right by the entrance you can spot the falls from the top angle. Besides this, if you want to have a closer view, then hike down a muddy path to Platform 2.

Usually, localities call this falls as “ Keppa” – meaning deafening noise, due to the loud unique sound it creates while rolling down the hill.

It is a remote place and you might not find many eateries, so try carrying your own food.

Jog is a majestic Waterfall standing tall amidst varying hues of lush green forests of Western ghats in Sagara, Shimoga. Sharavathi river cascades down from a height of 253 meters (830 ft) to form the famous Jog Falls. Indeed, this is the 2nd highest waterfall in India after the Nokalikal falls in Meghalaya that plunges from 335 meters. These falls are also known as Gerosappa or Joga falls or Jogada Gundi by the localities.

With misty forests regions; water gushing down rapidly; the sound of water crashing on rocks; vaporous spray from the rock; birds chirping around; and rainbows everywhere will leave you mesmerized during the peak Monsoon season. After reaching the spot, you need to take a small walkway, which will lead you down to viewpoints. The walkway offers a great view across the valley and has a railing protecting us from steep falls. There are two points from where we can observe Magod Falls and both offer a different stunning view. 

You can take a  narrow pathway downwards from viewpoint-2 to reach the bottom of falls. If you like adventures and taking risks is your norm, then take a  narrow pathway downwards from viewpoint-2 to reach the bottom of falls. Be cautious as the pathway leading to the foot of Magod is full of rocky boulders and extremely slippery during monsoon.

The name ‘Dudhsagar’ literally translates to ‘sea of milk’ due to its appearance which seems like milk is overflowing from the mighty mountain peaks of the Western Ghats.

There are 2 different platforms from where you can observe the scenic beauty of the falls. As you walk in right by the entrance you can spot the falls from the top angle. Besides this, if you want to have a closer view, then hike down a muddy path to Platform 2.
