Vittala temple dates back to the 15 century and it is the grandest of all temples and monuments in Hampi. Iruppu falls is a stepped waterfall that lies in the foot of the Brahmagiri hills of western ghats in Kodagu, Karnataka. Lakshmana Theertha stream which is a tributary of river Kaveri flows down from the hill to form Iruppu Waterfall. Water gushes through rocks from 170 ft on several step-like structures with a thunderous sound to form a pool. You can walk down the broken trail to the foot of the waterfalls to take a swim and beat the heat. Besides this, the water here is believed to cleanse off all the sins, so make sure you take a dip, if you believe it or not.

If you are an adventure freak then you can climb up the steep slope to reach the second tier of the falls. But make sure you watch every foot you take as this place is damn wet and slippery.

Be prepared to hike from the temple for 15 odd mins through the forest trail which is greasy and covered with wood to reach waterfalls. This waterfall is stuck amidst dense forest which is teeming with a wide range of flora and fauna.

Iruppu or Lakshmana Theertha falls is both a famous tourist spot as well as a pilgrim center. It is one of the best picnic spots to spend time with your family or a large group of friends and get immersed in nature.

Origin Of Lakshmana Theertha Or Iruppu Waterfalls As Per Legends

According to legends, Rama and Lakshmana while searching for Sita Devi had visited this place. When Lord Rama was thirsty he asked his brother to fetch water to drink. Lakshmana was not able to find any water source nearby. Hence, Lakshamana shot the arrow at the Brahmagiri Hills which led to the origin of River Lakshmana Tirtha. And, thus he was able to quench the thirst of his brother.

Iruppu Rameshwaram Linga Temple

Magod is a group of falls set amidst the dense jungles of Western ghats, near Yellapur, Uttara Kannada. It is a 2 tier waterfall, formed by the rivers Bedti and Shalmala. You can see the water gushing down the rocky paths from a height of 200m (650 ft) with a loud roar. Later, the falls are split into 2 segments before joining a narrow stream at the bottom of the valley.

Unchalli Falls | Lushington falls Trek

Yana Caves

 

This is a small village in the Kumta forest, which is 50 km away from Gokarna. Yana caves are an unusual karst rock formation. Yana cave is a part of Sahyadri mountains of western ghats and surrounded by thick forest and streams. These caves are one of the best places you can visit while you are in Sirsi.

Additionally, this hidden wonder houses two magnificent rock formations composed of black limestone which are known as the Bhairaveshwara Shikhara(120 meters) and the Mohini Shikhara(90 meters) surrounded by lush green forests. You need to trek for 3 km within the forest to reach this place.

Vibooti falls

 

Just about 8 km from Yana caves lies this small perennial Vibhooti waterfalls surrounded by gigantic rocks and limestone deposits, in Sahyadri mountains ranges of western ghats. You need to trek for about 1.5 km to reach this 70 ft multi-tiered waterfall.

The journey towards falls in itself is a great experience as you will be hiking through green shades of the forest; slippery rock, and small streams running with endless clear water. Not to mention the sight of mist-filled mighty mountains and deep valley next to you is mind-blowing. Like many other waterfalls, even this is not visible, until you reach the endpoint. But what awaits you at the end, as the clear white water gushes down the rocks forming a pool & sound of free-flowing as it enters the forest area is pure bliss. There is a popular belief that the water that flows from the Yana caves region is the sacred ash (vibhooti), and hence the name Vibhooti Falls.

Pattadakal is a group of temples or monuments clustered on a site of  6 acres of land. This architectural beauty lies on the banks of the Malaprabha River in the Bagalkot district of Karnataka were built by Chalukyas. Pattadakal, also known as “Raktapura” in olden days is declared as a UNESCO world heritage site in the year 1987. Mostly you can witness 7th and 8th century Hindu and Jain temples. There are 10 major temples dedicated to Lord Shiva and it is a blend of south Indian Dravidian style and north Indian (Nagara) style of architecture. Above all, structures here speak for themselves and tell us the Chalukyas were certainly flooded with highly skilled and blessed artisans. Standing tall at 826 meters. Kundadri is a hill that is stuck near Agumbe, amidst the western ghats of Shimoga. It is a lesser-known tourist destination, barring locals, no one is hardly aware of it. In most parts of the trek, you will be hiking through wild vegetation, rugged terrains, small streams, and slippery rocks. Murudeshwara is a beachside pilgrimage town on the shores of the Arabian sea in Uttara Kannada. This place is one of the Pancha kshetras of Karnataka namely Dharmasthala, Dharneshwara, Gokarna, and Nanjangud. All the above temples are dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Apart from this, Murudeshwara is also noted for a huge Shiva statue that sits on the shore overlooking the sea.

History Of Murudeshwara

As per the legends, how this temple got originated dates back to Ramayana times. Lord Ganesh played tricks and put the Atma Linga on the ground, which was to immortal powers to King Ravana. But when Lanka king Ravana tried to lift the Atma linga from the ground giving all his energy, tiny pieces flew in all directions. After an unsuccessful event, he became angry and threw the holy cloth which was used to cover the Atma Linga and it fell on Mrideshwara in Kanduka Giri. Later Mrideshwara was renamed Murudeshwar.
